How much time is necessary for two young passionate people to fall in love with each other? The play "The Bear" reveals in a concentrated comically-ironic way, an essential part of the human nature, suggesting how close sometimes anger and passion are. The conflict between the officer Smirnov and the landlady Popova registers a series of sudden passages from quarrel to the preparation of a duel between the two, and then the refusal of Smirnov to fight with the landlady with whom he suddenly falls in love.
The play "The Bear" has all the characteristics of the short genre: rapid lines exchange, extreme emotions, chaotic arguments, surprising overthrowing situations. Simple, clear, funny, its obvious charm lies in the power of the dialogue.
